Potholders and Linens

Be sure to visit our host of Vintage Thingies Thursday,Suzanne at Coloradolady. This is a potholder "holder". I was wondering what potholders it might have held. There is no obvious hanger. Was it pinned up or just on the table or hutch? Here's a few potholders close to the same age. I can see using the chicken but the yellow rose is more decorative than useful. This pink one could have been a sachet. The red doily has a edge or lip on the back side. Did it fit over a basket or pillow?

THese are great! I have a few potholders myself..but have never seen a "holder" My favorites are the ones with the roses...but I would not want to use them at all. Have a great week! Happy VTT.

I think the crochet ones were more decorative, but now could be used with microwaved dishes that would be too warm to pick up otherwise. So lovely for display, however, and yours have retained good color! Happy VTT to you

Those are so neat. Someone long ago took the time to crochet each of those. Very pretty.

I've always wondered about the usefullness of these crocheted pot holders, too.
I am hosting a bunch of giveaways this week. It ends Friday night. Hope you'll check it out.

I grew up with many crocheted potholders and we used them as a trivet under hot dishes. They are pretty and you have a wonderful collection.

Ooooo, I love your posts today. The rose was also crocheted in the squares and put together as a spread..or throw. The pink pineapple one would probably have a crocheted back, stuffed and then ribbon goes through the eylets and is tied into a bow at the top. The one with a "lip" on it was used to cover a kind of round hot pad. It would have slipped over the rounded edge to make the hot pad prettier. I love all your pretties..what sweet memories they bring back....Happy VTT

I love old potholders. I have one like similar to your yellow rose and use it under hot dishes before setting them on my table. That chicken is cute. Thanks for sharing them
