Sunbonnet Sue Quilt

I can't believe it's been so long since I posted! I love to include photos and sometimes they are such work. Then there's the time to edit everything. How do ya'll manage?? I often spend my time looking at your blogs and run out of time to post to mine! LOL Today I am joining Vintage Thingie Thursday once again. Thanks to Suzanne at Coloradolady for hosting! DH had a amateur radio show to attend at the fairgrounds in Raleigh. There is almost always a flea market in the area too. I found some great things and am sharing the Sunbonnet Sue quilt this week.

Suzanne hosts Vintage Thingie Thursday. Check out all the fun VINTAGE stuff!! I have a quilt top that was hand pieced in the 1940's. Newsprint was used as a template/ foundation. This could be an example of paper piecing before the term was coined. Each photo is clickable . You can see some great 1930 and 40's fabric in this quilt.

Primitive or Utility Quilt

My dear hubby went to an auction the other week and brought me home a quilt. It is what my Grandma and Mom would can utility. It does have a touch of art to it with the embroidered seams. Perhaps today it would be considered primitive. Upon close inspection I found the "batting" used was another quilt. You can see it peeking through a few places that are worn or frazzled. Each seam of the patchwork is embroidered with what I believe is the herringbone stitch. The quilt is also hand quilted. The quilting from the back view reminds me of Mom and her sisters.
